Sarah Talabi, Editor-in-Chief of Visualist Magazine, brings a multifaceted background in fashion, film, and cultural storytelling that seamlessly shaped the launch of the publication. With years of experience interviewing creatives, covering industry events, and working across fashion and entertainment spaces, Sarah developed a keen eye for emerging talent and untold stories. Her hands-on work behind the scenes and in front of the camera cultivated a deep understanding of creative culture, ultimately inspiring her to create Visualist Magazine—a platform dedicated to spotlighting artistry, innovation, and authentic voices across creative industries.
Since its launch, Visualist Magazine has quickly become a leading cultural force, distinguished by its rare intersection of art, film, and fashion. Unlike traditional publications, Visualist uniquely features in-depth interviews with visual artists, art gallery owners, film producers, actors, and fashion designers—creating a dynamic space where creative disciplines collide. This cross-industry approach positions the magazine as a hub for contemporary culture, offering audiences an insider’s perspective on creative movements shaping today’s world while amplifying both emerging and established voices within the global arts community.
Interviewer: What inspired you to launch Visualist Magazine, and what gap did you see in the media landscape that you wanted to fill?
Sarah: I was inspired to launch Visualist Magazine because I felt there was a missing space in media that truly united the creative industries instead of separating them. Art, fashion, and film constantly influence one another, yet they’re often covered in isolation. I wanted to create a platform that reflects how creativity actually exists in the real world—fluid, collaborative, and interconnected. By interviewing individuals who span multiple creative disciplines, we’re able to tell deeper stories that go beyond a single label or industry. Visualist celebrates the full spectrum of creative expression, spotlighting artists, gallerists, designers, filmmakers, and cultural tastemakers who are shaping the future through their work and perspectives.
Interviewer: How did your background in fashion, film, and interviewing shape the vision and direction of the magazine?
Sarah: Transitioning from fashion into film production and hosting was one of the most challenging chapters of my career. For a long time, I was boxed into the label of being ‘just a model,’ and that judgment followed me everywhere. People often underestimated my creative vision, my work ethic, and my desire to grow beyond what they had already seen me succeed in. It was difficult to constantly prove that I was more than one title or industry, but that struggle ultimately strengthened my purpose.
I deeply admire creatives who refuse to let expectations confine them—those who move fluidly between industries and trust their evolution, even when it feels uncomfortable. Watching others break boundaries and redefine themselves gave me the courage to do the same. Success in one space shouldn’t limit your potential in another. Creativity isn’t linear, and neither are our careers. That belief is at the core of everything I build, including Visualist Magazine—because I want to celebrate people who dare to expand beyond the boxes the world tries to put them in.
Interviewer: When selecting who to feature, what qualities or stories stand out to you the most?
Sarah: I’m always fascinated by people who have found success in more than one creative space – I want to interview the gallerist who used to sing, the film producer who used to model, the artist who used to act. There’s a certain bravery and strength of character that comes from finding success in more than one field.
Interviewer: How do you ensure the magazine stays authentic and culturally relevant in a fast-changing creative industry?
Sarah: I ensure Visualist Magazine stays authentic and culturally relevant by staying deeply connected to the creative community itself. I’m constantly listening—whether that’s through conversations with artists, designers, filmmakers, or audiences who are shaping culture in real time. Rather than chasing trends, I focus on meaningful storytelling and genuine voices, because authenticity never goes out of style.
Interviewer: Where do you see Visualist Magazine in the next five years, and what impact do you hope it continues to make on creative culture?
Sarah: More than anything, I hope the magazine continues to empower artists, designers, filmmakers, and visionaries to embrace their multidimensional identities. I want Visualist to be known as a space where creativity is limitless, where people feel seen beyond one title or industry, and where collaboration is celebrated. If we can inspire even one person to pursue their passions without boundaries, then we’ve made a meaningful impact on creative culture.
