PenFed Foundation for Military Heroes Raises Over $1 Million for Veterans and Military Community at 22nd Annual Military Heroes Golf Classic

TYSONS, Va., Sept. 11, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- The PenFed Foundation for Military Heroes, a national nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting veterans in their transition from service to success, is proud to announce it raised over $1 million to support veterans at the 22nd annual Military Heroes Golf Classic on Monday, September 8.

"For over 248 years, the brave service members of America's Armed Forces have fought 12 wars to defend our freedom," said James Schenck, President/CEO of PenFed Credit Union and CEO of the PenFed Foundation. "The success of our tournament enables us to continue taking care of our nation's veterans. At PenFed, we never forget."

Tee times began with a remembrance honoring 9/11 victims, their families and our nation's heroes.

The event honored military veterans with several inspiring speakers highlighting experiences that demonstrate courage and resilience. Speakers included:

  • U.S. Army Captain Mary Kolars who deployed to Afghanistan as a Female Engagement Team Leader with the 82nd Airborne Division. She went on to serve as the CST Officer in Charge, supervising all training of the female Afghan Female Tactical Platoon (FTP).
  • Nick Grillo, visionary and owner of Elevate Vending and recent participant in the PenFed Foundation Veteran Entrepreneur Program. He is an Operation Enduring Freedom and Air Force Combat Veteran with over 12 years of service.
  • Steven Wheatcroft, a former American professional golfer who had an 18-year career on the PGA Tour and Nationwide Tour. He is the CEO and Founder of The Mulligan Foundation, which focuses on providing mental health services for athletes.
