VOA Journalists Receive Career Support From Press Freedom Center Today

PR Newswire

WASHINGTON, March 28, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Times have been tough for the dedicated journalists at Voice of America. The Trump Administration's decision to end federal grant funding to the U.S. Agency for Global Media led to a shutdown of VOA and a massive furlough of all staff. It happened in just a matter of days and was shocking.

On Friday the newly formed Press Freedom Center at the National Press Club had a nice surprise and a helping hand for more than 200 VOA journalists. The Center funded entry to a major job fair held at the Club for all those journalists. Today they lined up to meet employers like the Associated Press, City Paper, University of Maryland and many others – hoping to find that next great job. They had their head shots redone, listened to informative panels – and there was even a therapy dog named Armand to help reduce their anxiety.

This is not all the Center is doing to help Voice of America navigate difficult times. We are working to help free the VOA journalists who are still in prison for the work they did on behalf of the American people. They are helping support VOA journalists on visas who may soon be deported to hostile countries without help. And Tuesday they will be hosting a news conference for the plaintiffs and lead lawyer in the VOA lawsuit brought against the Trump Administration.

The Center is new and growing but is really helping VOA and other journalists who are in trouble. We would appreciate it if you can help us out as well.  You can donate to the Center here: http://www.press.org/pfc  Your support means we can continue to help those in greatest need. And that means the world to us.
